Holliday’s thoughts on joining Boston: “I came here to win”

Jrue Holiday (33) is aiming for the championship title with the Boston Celtics (hereinafter referred to as Boston).

At the Boston press conference on the morning of the 5th (Korean time), Holliday said, “I think (joining Boston) is definitely the best opportunity to win.”

On this day, Holliday appeared in the media for the first time since being traded from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Portland Trail Blazers (hereinafter referred to as Portland) and from Portland to Boston.

“I came to Boston to take my game to the next level and help us become a champion,” said Holliday, a five-time All-Defensive team selection.

Holliday, who lifted the NBA trophy with Milwaukee in 2021, is the only player on the current Boston squad with championship experience. That means he’s the only one who knows what it takes to win in the playoffs, and he plans to impart his experience around the Boston locker room.

Previously, Boston won the championship under the ‘Big 3’ system in 2008 and advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals five times during the Jayson Tatum era, but reached the finals only once. Even that failed to get the championship trophy. During that period, various issues were raised, including Tatum’s discharge problem and Jaylen Brown’s handling problem. But having a veteran like Holliday could help turn things around.

“It was harder than anything I’ve ever done before,” Holliday said of the road to victory. “You’ll be tired and exhausted, but you’ll have to look at who has the mental toughness, who can keep playing until the end of the series and who (among the players) is the best.” It is important to have a lot of connections스포츠토토. “The teams that do this best chase the trophy and win,” he explained.

Holliday is used to playing with other stars, having worked with Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez during his time in Milwaukee. Above all, he took advantage of the space created by Antetokounmpo, recording a 39.5% success rate on 3-pointers over the past three seasons. Regarding playing with his new teammates Tatum and Brown, he said his goal is “to make basketball easier.”

Holliday, who also expressed his feelings about working with director Majula, said, “I like director Majula. “My role from the beginning was to do everything,” he said.

He continued, “In basketball, you have to do everything from offense and defense. Must be able to defend the entire court and control the offense. “You have to keep the excitement going at the end of the game so you have a situation where you can make good shots,” he said. “This is a winning culture, and Coach Majula is one of the people who can do this. And the way he communicated with me was really great,” he added.

Meanwhile, Holliday averaged 19.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 7.4 assists, and 1.2 steals last season.

If Holliday can play elite defense on one side of the court and combine with a superstar combination on the other, Boston could once again become the most competitive team in the Eastern Conference. This is also Holliday’s goal.
