David Ross has been fired as manager of the Chicago Cubs, but what’s on his mind?
Ross shared his thoughts in an interview with the Tallahassee DemocRAT that was published on Tuesday. It’s the first public interview Ross has given since his firing from the Cubs.
He was candid about his feelings, saying, “Sometimes I get angry,” but he also expressed his gratitude to the Cubs organization, saying, “I have a lot to be thankful for.”굿모닝토토 주소
“A lot of people worked really hard around me. I’m really grateful that they gave me the opportunity to lead a really great organization for the last four years with no coaching experience. It’s really impacted my life a lot. There were a lot of really good people, and to be honest, there’s not a lot of negative things to say about them,” he said.
Ross played 15 seasons in the major leagues during his career. Though he was primarily a backup catcher, he helped the Boston Red Sox win World Series titles in 2013 and the Cubs in 2016.
His experience earned him the Cubs managerial job ahead of the 2020 season.
Despite having no coaching experience, he took the reins and compiled a record of 262 wins and 284 losses in four years. They won a district title in 2020 during the shortened season and made the postseason, but were eliminated in the wild-card round.
In 2023, they were in contention for a wild-card berth, but were eliminated by the Arizona Diamondbacks at the end of the season. He had to watch as Arizona went on to win the World Series.
Eventually, the Cubs fired him, who had a year left on his contract, and installed Craig Counsell, whose contract with the Milwaukee Brewers had expired, as the new manager.
Cubs president Jed Hoyer personally traveled to Ross’ home in Florida on Monday local time to inform him of the decision. Hoyer later admitted that it was a “really difficult decision” during a meeting of the general managers.
“If my boss doesn’t think I’m a good coach, it’s right to make a change,” Ross said. I don’t think it’s his fault. If he doesn’t think I’m the right person, that’s his job, that’s his choice. I have my own thoughts and opinions, but I’ll keep them to myself.”
